Collection: Frants Henningsen

Frants Henningsen (1850–1908) was a Danish painter renowned for his contributions to the Danish Golden Age and his mastery of portraiture. Henningsen’s works often depict intimate, personal subjects with a refined, almost photographic realism. Known for his sensitive portrayal of light and shadow, he excelled in capturing the subtleties of human expression, particularly in his portraits of prominent figures in Danish society. He was influenced by both Impressionism and Realism, but his style was uniquely his own, characterized by meticulous detail and a focus on the inner character of his subjects. Henningsen’s works can be found in key collections such as the Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark) and the Thorvaldsens Museum in Copenhagen.
